Letter from the President
INIAI Members:
It is my honor and privilege to serve as your 2025 INIAI president. I will first offer congratulations to 2024 President Kaitlin Hayes and the 2024 board for putting together a memorable conference in Bloomington Indiana, just down the street from the storied and beautiful main campus of Indiana University. It was a wonderful venue, and great time. I would also like to recognize and offer thanks to our 2025 board and officers who were elected and installed at the 2024 annual business meeting: Kaitlin Hayes (Board Chair), Mallory Webb (Secretary/Treasurer), Lana Howard (Vice President), board members Marcus Montooth, John Vanderkolk, Kim Settlemoir, Briana Gibbs, and Taylor Corey. Without your generous contributions of time and talents, this organization cannot function.
If you have never considered serving or have considered but haven’t made the leap, do it! It’s a rewarding experience to be a part of planning these great educational conferences for our members. Also, do you hold an IAI certification? Serving on the board gives you recertification credits too!
Do you have an interesting case? Do you have a special skill? Have you attended another conference where you saw an interesting speaker? Is there a topic you are interested in learning more about? If so, we want to know about it. Please email any of your board members or officers with speaker ideas or if you would like to speak at our 2025 educational conference.

We have many members of this organization who give of themselves to make the INIAI a success and some who do so year after year for nothing more than a “thank you”. We currently have no formal mechanism to honor those members who give so much, chief among my first acts as president is my attempt to change that. Below I have outlined the creation of two new resolutions sub-committees along with justification of my authority to do so based on my reading of the bylaws and constitution. I have also included details for the first award, “The Good of the Division Award”, which I hope to have presented to one of our many worthy members at the next conference.
The INIAI Bylaws Article V establishes a Resolutions Committee, among its responsibilities Section 2 allows the resolutions committee to be involved in: “…[P]roposing matters of interest or concern to the membership.”.
The INIAI Constitution Article III, Section 3 (c) empowers the President to: “…[A]ppoint all committees.”.
It is within these parameters that I am establishing two Resolution Committee subcommittees.
1.)The Resolutions Committee Honors and Awards Subcommittee.
2.)The Resolutions Committee IAI Parent Body Conference Exploratory Subcommittee.
The Resolutions Committee Honors and Awards Subcommittee, herein after referred to as the “Honors and Awards Subcommittee” for brevity, shall be responsible for, determining the form/design of all awards, keeping a record of all nominees, notifying members when they are nominated, selecting eligible nominated members for receipt of existing awards, development and establishment of new honors and awards, and maintaining a record of past recipients. Establishment of new awards must be approved by a quorum majority board of directors vote at a regular or annual meeting.
The Honors and Awards Subcommittee shall consist of a Chairperson, appointed by the division President, and up to 5 committee members, which may be selected by the chairperson from all division members in good standing. Honors and Awards Subcommittee members may serve multiple terms.
Any member in good standing may nominate any other member in good standing, aside from themselves, for any award, by communication of their nomination to any committee member, board member, or officer. Any board member or officer who is not currently serving on the Honors and Awards Subcommittee who is notified of any nomination shall pass along the nomination to the Honors and Awards Subcommittee Chairperson or committee member in a timely manner.
Any Honors and Awards Subcommittee member, including the Chairperson, may be nominated for any award, but the nominated member may not vote in the selection process. If the nominated committee member is the only person serving on the committee at the time of the nomination the President shall appoint a “temporary selection committee” to vote on the recipient. The temporary selection committee’s make-up shall be determined by the President but must be comprised of division member(s) in good standing.
1.)My first direction to the awards and honors subcommittee is the establishment of “Good of the Division Award”. The Good of the Division Award shall be awarded to an eligible Division member once per year who has been nominated and contributed significantly to the division, and it’s aims and objects as outlined in Article I of the INIAI Constitution. The Resolutions Committee Honors and Awards Subcommittee shall establish the exact form/design of the award.
The Good of the Division Award shall be presented to the selected recipient at the annual business meeting by the Chairperson or his/her designee. If the selected recipient is not present at the annual meeting an announcement will still be made at the annual meeting and recorded in the minutes, the Chairperson shall determine the best method to deliver the award to the recipient.
The Resolutions Committee IAI Parent Body Conference Exploratory Subcommittee.
The Resolutions Committee IAI Parent Body Conference Exploratory Subcommittee, herein after the “IAI Conference Exploratory Subcommittee” shall be responsible for liaising with The IAI in all matters pertaining to bringing the parent body educational conference to Indianapolis.
The Chairperson for the IAI Conference Exploratory Subcommittee shall be appointed by the Division President and may serve multiple terms. The Chairperson shall be empowered to select subcommittee members as required to assist in their duties and shall have the full authority to speak for the division in matters pertaining to bringing the parent body educational conference to Indianapolis. The Chairperson and all subcommittee members must be INIAI Division members in good standing.
The Chairperson or their designee shall provide periodic updates to the board of directors and officers on the progress of the subcommittee toward its goal of bringing the parent body conference to Indianapolis.
I am pleased to announce my first appointments to these committees. Vice President Lana Howard will serve as the Chair of the Honors and Awards Committee. Secretary Treasurer Mallory Webb will serve as Chair of the IAI Parent Body Conference Exploratory Subcommittee. My thanks to them for agreeing to these appointments. Please reach out to them if you would like to serve on one of these committees. Positions are open to all INIAI members in good standing.
I am pleased to announce that thanks to the hard work of your board members, the venue, and dates for the 2025 educational conference have already been set. This will give you plenty of time to plan your attendance. The 2025 conference will be held October 7th-9th at the Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park Inn, 5830 N. Post Rd. Indianapolis, IN 46216. Further details about the conference will be announced in upcoming newsletters, I hope to see many of you there.
