The Board is very excited to announce that our 13th Annual Educational Conference will be held on October 9th, 10th and 11th 2005, at the HYATT REGENCY INDIANAPOLIS, located at One South Capital Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46204, (317-632-1234). Check-in will be on Sunday, October 8th with registration starting Monday morning at 7am. The hotel is located in the heart of the downtown business district, and is connected to the Circle Centre Mall, the State Capital, and the Indianapolis Repertory Theatre.
We have worked hard with the Hyatt personnel in order to achieve an acceptable contract for this event. The room rate will be $110.00 a night with an additional $18.00 fee for parking. You will need to make your reservations before September 12, 2006 to guarantee the availability of rooms at this rate. You can also receive a 6% discount on the tax, if you bring a copy of your agencies tax-exempt form and when checking out either pay with cash or use your departments’ credit card. Remember to reserve your room early and mention that you are a member of the IN IAI.
Downtown parking is always an issue. We have tried to minimize the costs by looking for cheaper parking areas than the Hyatt’s parking garage. Please see the enclosed parking list and map for alternative parking lots and their rates. The cheapest parking area is at the RCA Dome-Lot 3 and it will accommodate larger vehicles. However, it is surrounded by construction for the new Colts Stadium, but as of now, it is still operating for parking. If you plan on parking there, you will have to walk a few blocks to the Hyatt.
We are planning a very versatile and interesting group of individuals to appear as speakers this year. Some of the topics include: Airbag Fabric Impressions, Collection and Preservation of Footwear Evidence, Evidence Photography Tips, Understanding the Dangers of a Clan Lab and Fingerprint Error Rate and Distortion. We have also increased the number of vendors, in hopes that we will have the opportunity to acquire new problem solving techniques for our departments.
This year’s IN IAI conference will coincide with the Midwestern Association of Forensic Scientists (MAFS) annual conference. They have kindly invited us to join them in any of their workshops, nightly activities, and vendor area at the Hyatt. The two workshops that might pertain to us include: a half-day Fingerprint Pre-Certification workshop taught by Josh Bergeron on the afternoon of Thursday, October 12th and a half day Tire Impression workshop taught be Dwane Hilderbrand in the morning of Friday, October 13th. Both of these MAFS workshops have a fee of $75.00. MAFS has also organized nightly activities which include: a tour of the Indiana State Museum-CSI: Crime Scene Insects exhibit on Monday for $5, Duck Pin Bowling for $15 on Tuesday, a Pub Crawl on Wednesday, and a Racing Themed Gala/Banquet for $25 on Thursday night. If you are interested in attending any of these events, please see the MAFS registration booth when you arrive at the Hyatt.
